It is the legendary capital of king Bhalukpa, the grandson of Bana who is believed to be the contemporary of legendary king Naraka of Pragjyotishpur.

Ruins of Fort, brick structures and remnants of ring wells can be seen here. The fort can be assiciated with the mighty Salasthambhas who ruled the area from the middle of the seventh century. Later, it was ruled by the Palas of Assam during tenth to twelve century CE.
